You love your favorite mug, you use it daily for your morning cuppa joe, but lately, it’s been looking rather dull and dingy on the inside of the mug. What causes those grey scratch marks? And how do you get rid of them? No worries we have a solution for you.
Metal marks found on the bottom of your mug are caused by silverware. When a spoon scrapes across the mug’s surface, it leaves behind a metal trail, resulting in scuff marks. However, these markings are not scratches etched into the mug and can be removed.
Despite being unsightly, the metal marks do not mean it’s time to replace the mug. They are not permanent and can be removed with items commonly found in your pantry. Depending on the severity of the markings, you can usually restore your mug to look brand new.
There are various methods to clean the stains on the mugs’ inside, but baking soda is our favorite choice. Baking soda’s grittiness makes a paste that is abrasive enough to get the job done, leaving behind no odor or flavors that could ruin your next brew. Moreover, it’s a cost-effective solution, with a box likely already in your pantry.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 tbsp. Baking Soda
- ½ tsp. Tap Water
- A non-metal scouring pad
The Method:
- Mix the baking soda with the water to form a thick paste.
- Dab your scouring pad into the paste and use it to scrub the stain marks on the mug
- Rinse with water and repeat as necessary. Depending on how bad the marks are, it may take a while to scrub until it is perfect.
- Once you are satisfied with how the mug looks, wash, rinse, and dry.
