While there is no problem taking a guided tour, or a trip to the Museum, at any time. We recommend that you call ahead and schedule an appointment take a trip INTO the statue itself. Calling ahead to the Ellis Island National Park will allow you to schedule an appointment to get a tour inside the statue and truly see what this national monument is all about.

Ellis Island

Here are some tips for putting together your visit.

  1.  Buy your tickets ahead of time. This includes making any appointments for the inner tours of Ellis Island. If you want to take advantage of this tours, it will save you a lot of headache by pre-purchasing ahead of time.
  2. Prepare yourself. Taking a trip to the top of Lady Liberty is no easy task. There are 354 steps up to the top of her crown. So if you feel unable to tackle that task, perhaps book other tours instead. Or challenge yourself and wear good shoes.
  3. Pack Lunch, the concession stands on Ellis Island are crowded and expensive. Packing your own little picnic will save yourself some money and a lot of headache.
  4. Use the lockers. There are lockers available for rent where you can store extra bags you don’t need to take with you. You will be doing a lot of walking and bags can get heavy. Pack light, and if you can’t, use the lockers to keep things you don’t need all the time safe. And don’t forget the most important thing to do, visit the gift shop! We aren’t ones to brag, but Americaware’s custom Statue of Liberty mugs have been the best selling mugs at Ellis Island for over ten years in a row.
